About Us

September Burks has always been fascinated by the various aspects of the arts. She has a natural affinity for works of art, classical music, plays, and literature. 

Growing up in New Orleans, Louisiana made it very easy for September to become immersed in the city's rich and diverse artistic culture, one that blends so many different elements together perfectly. As a child, she was especially moved by colors. Colors project emotion to September, and shapes give that emotion a home. Sketching and painting were always hobbies of her’s, with her father once recognizing that “her natural abilities for art would take her far in life.”

In 2007, September kicked those abilities into high gear and started her career as a self-taught makeup artist working for MAC, Estée Lauder, and Cover Girl. She also excelled in airbrush bridal makeup by working for Get Polished, a wedding company. 

In 2016, she opened a beauty bar in New Orleans East, with a friend. Yearning for more than bridals and everyday glam, she decided to move her company to Los Angeles, California in 2017. In L.A., September has thrived. She has expanded her company’s reach and expertise, and now has wide-ranging experience in production, runway, print, and red carpet events. 

Since expanding in L.A., her hard work has not gone unnoticed. September has won the Makeup Artist of the Year award 3 years in a row (2018, 2019, 2020)*, and has worked with celebrities like Master P, Omarion, Estelle, Joey Lawrence, Luenell, Omar Gooding, Paula Parker, Dorien Wilson, Bentley Evans and many directors and producers. 

After years of hard work and planning, September launched her very own cosmetics brand, Burks Cosmetics in December 2020. As a licensed esthetician in the state of California, September is very passionate about the beauty and natural aesthetics of the face and body. In addition to its current product lineup, Burks Cosmetics is planning to introduce skin care products in the near future.

 

Burks Cosmetics is a completely vegan, cruelty free beauty brand, with products free of parabens and toxins. It has always been a dream of September’s to create a high-quality, affordable makeup brand for amateurs and professionals alike.
